1963

The fireplace began its life in 1963.

60 years ago this winter.

Amazing what a little thin gas line, a key that turns it on, and a long narrow match can bring into existence on a snowy day. A place of retreat. A warm touch of the indoors that can make one feel comfort and wisdom and respite through the entire home. That positive trail of the flow of gas, making its way inside and consuming itself with blue flame, turned to red and making itself yellow, in sacrifice to you and your comfort.

The quilt your Aunt made, covered with chickens clipped from different cloths, back when times were less expensive is draped over you, cutting out that last piece of cold, making you feel rested, protecting you from all the things that you've no time for, as much as realizing the relaxation, and enjoying your day.

Your Mother and Fathers pictures, your grandchildrens photos all tightly wrapped up in their winters clothes, growing larger each day, but holding the smiles of the times in the picture.

It's cold. But it is warm.
