Mom

Born in southwest Oklahoma. Her mother died when she was 3, she was orphaned at 8, married at 16, pulled cotton, a baker, a Navy wife, mother of three, a window dresser, went back to school and worked for the county, she grew up and made her way.

Momma stands there in her bright pink shoes,

and her bright pink shirt,

with a smile that covers her face, and a silly hat in spite.

She’s 85 years old. Ground Hogs day she’ll be 86, she’ll tell you if you stop.

Wait just a minute, and you will hear, how she was married well over 50 years and lived and loved and lost our Pop.

She’ll make the best of all situations, she laughs and titters and makes jokes, loving fun, with those around her.

She can be very quiet and almost disappear when it is not her that needs to be concerned, and make life fun again in just a few minutes.

There are things you tell her, and things she’ll tell you, that must be kept private and quiet.

But you know there is a prayer for each one, each child, grandchild or great grandchild before her day is done.

She has never been to see a movie, never had a drink, has loved life the way it was dealt, has been there through sleepless nights of her children laying in hospital rooms, or standing at Gods alter, praying their way through.

Mom. Such a tiny word, for such a big heart.
