First Days of Fall

The heat has kept it very warm around us, snow is in the forecast, but months to come before it would make its appearance.

Watching the days form and including the sweat of the afternoons, left us to think that Summer had beaten Fall back. He made him stumble and trip and look up to eyes of briskly cool winds, of raindrops that felt painful yet to come, and Summer, staring with wild eyes, a beaten brow, stains of days that kept one from breathing, all anchored in his wrinkled, muscled hands, glowered down upon him as we waited.

No, for Fall made its appearance again, though stepping lightly on the soil burnt from Summer's heat. But wait, and watch, and you will see Fall spread his fingers slowley around, blow his air that has been silently sliding forward around our heads, and whisper just a touch of his hands, as we begin to dress for his welcome.

The flowers have known it is coming, let us be patient in their beauty, and sing the songs of its approach, it's arrival, and it's capture of our hearts.
