Highway 20 West

Just below Keetonville Hill, on this road that separates Claremore three miles to the east, and the road to Owasso just a mile up. It’s round about path, that creeps up from the bottom, around and up on two lanes, one going down and one going up, like a vine thats twisted and turned its growth on the tree.

Watch deep into the valley going up, a field and breaks of trees and more hills; watch the hillside within touching distance of your window coming down, where the road will straighten and the Verdigris River will flow.

This old place, built of stones, shingles, panel board, plywood and brick and hard won nails, looks out at the little road. It’s garnishments are many, over twenty roof top vents to Heaven, blow the spirits from this house, that sat on the porch in the big rocker, drinking ice-tea on the step, in the cobbled up days that have flown, at least in the last fifty years that have passed.
