Loggerhead Shrike

Tiny feet, wrapped around two-layer barbed wire, between two barbs, with the painted silver top of the post, scratched by time, and looped and wound with wire holder.

The look, from a dark eye, wrapped in dark small feathers, looks out and sees the world on an expressionless face.

If it were a man he would be easy to describe: “A sullen look of one who sees, of one who feels, but keeps emotions in check, waiting for that one or this one to play his hand, and holding his balance with patience.”

But as a bird, all that can be said: “He waits for food, looks for shelter, and carries himself ready for flight.”

You can feel the candid feelings, so obvious in the discourse, and it leaves the speculation to us .
