The rooster, “Charles the IV”
(Whose breed is quite unknown),
By those who know it best,
Can only stay a moment.
He must be off among them,
The little birds and hens,
He has to carry his weight,
And these colors to the fullest.
His fancy comb, and piercing eyes,
All perched upon this body rare,
Must follow not a single one,
But be followed, by the many.
His feet will click the floor,
The thick neck will ease itself among them,
Tail feathers curled and turned across the left.
His song, it rings a mighty sound.
Bring him on, to protect the roost,
And keep him cavalier,
The rooster, above the rest,
Will make him to be proud.
