The simple child, of simple folks, took his wee baseball bat and swung it hard ( or tried to do) and popped the narrow top, but through the toughest times, the tractor survived, the barn stood firm, and the acres fought the storms. It's got two or three bullet holes, but it is kept to signify my imperfections.
Behind this gate the farm still stands, it's acres paid and ponds still filled with water. The gates need painted, the house could use a coat, the barn looks a little bit rough, but it is very much home. The wasps or bees will fight for it, but fighting is something that needs done.
So look through the gate, and see us there, out beneath the tree, cooling our souls, and sitting there, welcoming the evening to come, have a glass of tea, and we shall talk of fall.
