A pair of pears.
With my knife, I can pare a pair of pears. I'll use my paring knife.
Or maybe I should use two paring knives, because I have a pair, of knives, that will pare the pears. Then they will be pared.
Two pair of pears pared, or eight pair of pared pear pieces for the pair of us to pare our appetites down, should make pairing the pared pears that much better.
