Watching

The day. Today, its nice, its hot; its been the perfect day for fun and laughter.

The fourth will be tomorrow, but we can play today, enjoy the breeze, the pops and booms are yet to come, the dogs shaking, the birds scattering, the squirrels ducking, the children peel with laughter.

Picnics are over, pans of beans and potato salad almost empty, cooked burgers and dogs down to the last. Old men sit in lounge lawn chairs, laughing in spite of themselves.

Kaboom, and bangs, and hurried works, begin to fill the sky, as one again, the day before, the day after, or on the day, we celebrate our independence once again.
